<p>This study aimed to explain Tehran residents’ experiences of the social, behavioral, and psychological consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify the mechanisms influencing mental health in post-COVID society. This qualitative study employed an inductive thematic analysis approach. The participants were 24 adults residing in Tehran who were recruited through purposive maximum-variation sampling based on gender, age, marital status, education, occupation, and experiences of COVID-19 infection or pandemic-related bereavement. Data were collected exclusively through individual semi-structured interviews. Interviews continued until theoretical saturation was achieved; preliminary saturation occurred during the twenty-first interview, and three additional interviews confirmed that no substantively new concepts were emerging. The interviews were audio-recorded with consent, transcribed verbatim, anonymized, and organized using NVivo software. Data analysis involved repeated familiarization with the transcripts, generation of initial codes, development of candidate themes, review of themes against the coded extracts and the entire dataset, definition and naming of themes, and preparation of the analytical narrative. Credibility and dependability were enhanced through participant checking, peer review of the analytical process, maintenance of an audit trail, reflexive documentation, and maximum-variation sampling. Five main categories were identified: persistent psychological insecurity and future anxiety; erosion and reconfiguration of social relationships; consolidation of avoidant behaviors and digitalized living; intensification of economic and psychological inequalities; and post-crisis growth and reconstruction of coping resources. Participants described continuing concerns about illness, death, reinfection, financial instability, and the possibility of future collective crises. They also reported reduced interpersonal trust, selective social participation, dependence on digital communication, sleep disturbances, motivational decline, emotional exhaustion, and difficulty returning to pre-pandemic routines. These effects were more pronounced among participants experiencing bereavement, unstable employment, caregiving burdens, or inadequate social support. Nevertheless, some participants reported greater attention to self-care, revised life priorities, appreciation of close relationships, enhanced psychological flexibility, and improved preparedness for future crises. The findings indicate that termination of the public-health emergency does not necessarily end its psychosocial consequences. Mental health in post-COVID society is shaped by the interaction of illness and bereavement experiences, socioeconomic insecurity, altered relational patterns, institutional trust, digital behaviors, and individual and community resources. Post-pandemic policies should therefore extend beyond short-term, individual-level treatment and incorporate community-based mental-health services, active identification of vulnerable groups, restoration of social connectedness, economic and caregiving support, media literacy, accessible hybrid care, and long-term strategies for collective resilience</p>
